The Three Lion’s have played their final round of friendlies before the World Cup in June, still leaving some questions as to who will be on the plane.
Unimpressive displays in their 1-1 draw with Uruguay and historic 1-0 defeat to Japan at Wembley has left some players on the cusp of missing out.
Some question as to whether the squad were fully focused on these games given, we are at the business end of the season, however it was an opportunity for some to stake a claim due to limited game time for their clubs.
One such example is Phil Foden who has lacked minutes at Manchester City but was backed by Tuchel in these two fixtures.
In an interview, the German said:
He tried everything. I would say he was excellent in camp but, yeah, he struggles to show it on the pitch.
Thomas Tuchel on Phil Foden
Obviously he didn’t have a lot of minutes for City recently, then he came to camp with the brightest smile and was so good in training.
And I thought he will just surprise us and will play with the same verve and excitement but, yeah, he struggles to have the full impact.
It only deepens the selection problem as to who will occupy number 10 role, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer looked promising at times but struggled to also have any real impact.
Rogers has been outstanding at times for Aston Villa this season but a dip in form just before a major international tournament means he needs to use these last 10 games to find his quality.
Palmer has had a campaign riddled with injuries and lacklustre performances but like Rogers, if he can find his form we all know what the former Manchester City man is capable of.
That brings us on to Jude Bellingham, who without doubt is an unbelievable player but not favoured in Tuchel’s England squad.
The 22-year-old has suffered his fair share of knocks with Real Madrid but looks to be back fit and playing well. Surely a man that simply cannot be overlooked.
These two fixtures certainly gave the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich head coach a bit more clarity on his final squad, with big decisions still to come.
I learn from every training session, and I learn from how the squad is together and I learn from how the players react to the game plan and how they adapt.
Thomas Tuchel
How quick they can learn and how quick they can adapt and how they can put it on the pitch.
